With backpacks filled and lunches packed, your little ones are already off to school for the start of the new year! While there can be mixed emotions of excitement and anxiety this time of year, getting back into the swing of things won’t take too long. Small adjustments around the house and to your family’s schedule can make a substantial difference to make a mindful transition into the new school year.
- Encourage positive attitudes with your children by having a positive attitude yourself.
- Introduce any new bedtime and nighttime schedules immediately.
- Adjust morning routines to follow a schedule that gives enough time for everything – waking up and relaxing, getting dressed, eating a healthy breakfast, brushing teeth, getting everything ready to go.
- Designate and ready a specific area for homework.
- Create routines and exercise rules during the school week.
- Do as much as you can the night before to get your child ready for tomorrow’s school day.
- Set your own alarm clock to an earlier time to give yourself the time you need.
- Eat breakfast together as a family. Spending that quality time will mean a lot to everyone!
