Whether your child likes to tell you what goes on at school or not, we as parents can pose questions that will allow us to learn about his or her day at school. Want to know about what goes on while your kid is at school? Try posing these five questions to get them talking:
- What did your teacher talk about today? This question will require kids to reflect on their day and think about interactions with the teacher and lessons taught.
- What made you laugh today? This question will likely provide some hilarious answers and get your child to loosen up as he or she recounts the silly things that happened. It will also help to shine a positive light on school.
- Who did you play with during recess? You can learn more about your child’s friends through this question, including whether they tend to play with the same friends or mix it up a bit.
- Is anything bothering you at school? This might not be an every day question, but your child may not volunteer stories about the tough stuff. Asking this question will help pinpoint what might be bothering, or even scaring, your child.
- Is anyone in class going through a hard time? This one allows your child to focus on someone else and help him or her to be invested in the well being of classmates and friends.
