Children who learn more quickly than their peers frequently test as gifted. While being gifted is a wonderful talent, it can often leave children feeling frustrated, without many friends, and exhibiting frequent behavioral issues. Here are seven secrets to unleash your gifted child’s creativity as an outlet.

  1. Accelerate more learning. The exercises and routines used to reinforce learning for regular students will only frustrate a gifted child, so make sure to move on when they learn a concept.
  2. Broaden horizons. Encourage mental connections and conclusions by using broad, guiding questions. It is a great technique for sparking lively conversations about books, movies, current event, and family dynamics.
  3. Explore infinite possibilities. When a subject captures the attention of gifted children, encourage further exploration by suggesting books to read or anything connected to the subject, such as traveling or attending events.
  4. Let free time be free. Avoid overextending gifted children with nonstop enrichment activities. It is important to remember that they are still young physically, socially, and emotionally.
  5. Rewriting the ending of a book. Many advanced children show incredible creative writing capabilities. Building on that strength involves providing activities that encourage curiosity and ignite passions that they never knew existed.
  6. Hands-on activities. Many gifted children, especially kinesthetic learners, learn best when they can work with something tangible. Try to think of activities that will enable them to get work with materials, such as looking at different objects under a microscope.
  7. Editorial writing. Some advanced creative exercises include writing a letter to the editor of a local paper responding to an issue in the community or paper. This is an excellent method to help gifted children make use of their talents for writing while focusing on real life situations.

Supporting the interests of gifted children is critical to their future success, confidence, and overall self-esteem. Inspiring their creativity helps them realize how their knowledge is inspirational to real life situations.
