As the summer winds down and school will soon be back in session, your child (and you as a parent!) may be feeling the excitement and anticipation for the new school year. PBS has put together a list of helpful tips to help you prepare for the year ahead and get you and your child ready for the return to school.
- Meet the new teacher with your child. Your young one might be worried about liking or getting along with the teacher, so meeting him or her with your child will help to settle any nerves and support a healthy relationship between teacher, student, and parent.
- Tour the school. Getting familiar with the campus is important for your child to feel comfortable, and touring before school starts might help calm those first day nerves.
- Help your child to reconnect with friends from school. If they haven’t seen each other over the summer, consider refreshing these friendships with a playdate before school begins.
- Let your little one pick out the school supplies. Being well equipped and ready for school will help him or her to feel excited about school starting.
- Ease into the school routine. Switching from a laid back summer schedule to a school schedule can be a jolting one, so easing into it by practicing a few days in advance may make a big difference.
