When it comes to education, not all students are created equal. In more recent years, it has become apparent that there are children that require different and more challenging settings in order to excel and progress. One of the programs that have become well accepted is the use of a gifted education. A gifted education is one that places high-achieving students in a learning environment designed for their specific social, emotional, and academic needs. Here are a few methods of gifted education used today.

The Acceleration Method

One of the most common types of gifted education practices is moving a student through traditional schooling at a much faster rate. This can be done through skipping grades, entrance to school at an early age, or providing the student with a much heavier load. This gives the student the opportunity to be in an educational environment that is at their intellectual level.

Integrated Curriculum Model

Many gifted schools will use the integrated curriculum approach for their students. This model is based off of intensity, complexity, and intelligence. Not only is this curriculum accelerated, but it gives an in-depth lesson on subjects and allows for students to be curious while learning. Children are constantly being stimulated by observing, discussing, and hands on work. The Integrated Curriculum Model isn’t limited to any subject and focuses on all academic subjects in a regular classroom.

Grouping Students

The grouping practice is commonly used in the world of gifted students. This is when students with comparable abilities and performance levels are put together when being taught. Placing students with like minds together provides the students the opportunity to experience more advanced instruction and allows for them to move through material at a much quicker pace.

When it comes to educating your children, arm yourself by researching all of the options. By choosing the right approach for your gifted child, you could enhance and accelerate their education by tenfold.
