There’s not a parent in the world who doesn’t think that their child is the smartest kid on the block, and that’s exactly the way a parent should feel. However, some children truly do have the special gift of extremely high intelligence, and these children need to be properly guided with an education that encourages their passion for learning and creativity.

Signs That Your Child May Be Gifted

Every child is unique, and you can expect different children to indicate that they are gifted in a variety of ways. While assessments and formal IQ tests can help in identifying gifted children, you can also look for the following signs that may indicate that your child is extraordinarily gifted.

• Early Readers: A gifted child will learn quickly, and you may be amazed to find that your very young children have learned to read completely on their own. They will also be able to demonstrate that they fully understand the words that they are reading.

• Exceptional Talent: Young children who are gifted may demonstrate talent well beyond their years when exposed to music and the arts. Offering lessons in these areas will often propel a gifted child to the top of their class very quickly.

• Natural Learners: Your gifted child will must likely be able to pick up most every subject with apparent ease and enjoy delving deeply into subjects that they find the most interesting. Don’t be surprised if they’re able to tell you everything there is to know about horses, space or baseball at a young age.

• Excellent Memory Skills: While gifted children will often become bored with memory games, that may simply be due to the fact that it’s far too easy for them. An excellent memory allows gifted children to more easily absorb and retain everything that they learn.

• Early Development: Gifted children usually develop the motor skills that involve balance, coordination and movement quite early. This will usually evolve quickly into the advancement of fine-motor activities that include putting puzzles together and building realistic structures with blocks.
